1.6 release branch created and 1.6-rc1 tag posted

	Good afternoon everyone!

	The 1.6 branch has been created and an initial release candidate tag  
has been posted at http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/tags/release_1_6_0-rc1 
  since trunk/base has been in development and testing for very long  
already and no problems have been reported so far.

	Please reinstall your base tools from this tag and test as  
extensively as you can, reporting any findings as tickets assigned to  
the new "MacPorts 1.6" milestone [1]

[1] My initial plan for working with base bugs & milestones on our  
roadmap (base bugs, base enhancements & a release specific milestone)  
has proven less than optimal, I believe, so I'll think about a new  
methodology and will post it to this list for feedback ASAP; if in the  
mean time you have something to say about this, then please feel most  
free to post. For the time being I'll leave the 1.5 milestone open and  
will figure out later what to do with the tickets that are still open  
in it, but I feel that we need to have a 1.6 milestone at least for  
initial tracking purposes of new base tickets.
