This breaks those ports that use ${sysroot}. Currently that's cairo,  
libiconv and xrender.

$ sudo port install cairo +universal
Error: Unable to execute port: can't read "sysroot": no such variable
$

Maybe ${sysroot} should be retained until ${universal_sysroot} is in  
a released version of MacPorts and these ports are updated to use it?
