Creating a new port

The correct path to install MacPorts applications to is in the  
variable ${applications_dir}. This exists as of MacPorts 1.7.0 which  
is not yet released. Until it is, follow a strategy as in the port  
lisaem, where you set that variable to its default value if it is not  
already set to something.
