Most definitely, 1.7 fixes an issue (the Tcl env bug) which is probably what
you were originally seeing, as well as many other improvements (and will also
fix the 'Group not found').
So definitely run selfupdate, then clean libiconv (sudo port clean libiconv)
and try again.
