webroot for macports

I'm curious about the instances where the user will use a web project with the apple-supplied apache, that is /Library/WebServer/Documents/

Would it not be better to accommodate those users with a setting that allowed it to be wherever they wish, while defaulting to ${prefix}/var/www ?
