You're right, it seems the only reason this happens at all is because my
py27-ipython +parallel pulled in this part during the upgrade. Would an
alternative approach be dropping these variants completely and adding a note
that explains where the bits from the variants can be found now? That doesn't
give users a seamless upgrade path, but at least doesn't give them an upgrade
path that doesn't error out.
