ReportCrash and lldb

Hi,

Tinkering with KDE's crash reporter I realised I don't know exactly how Apple's own ReportCrash works. Installing dev tools is always among the very first things I do so I never used OS X without debugger available.

Does ReportCrash generate backtraces when lldb is not available (Xcode not installed), and if so, is there a way to "pervert" it to do so for a 3rd party crash reporter?
