I took a shot at this, and what I found is that the current version of epubcheck is not supported by the JRE available from Apple.
There are several different ways I can make this work:
I can require the Oracle JRE, located (when installed) at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
I can require one or another of the openjdk ports available in MacPorts.
… something else?
What do the experts here suggest?
