 Yes, I noticed that too. I went to /usr/local/lib and removed the
 libstdc++*.* and /usr/local/lib/gcc/*. I don' know why they got installed
 there. Perhaps, I had build it to compile some old programs.

 Once I removed that, I was successfully able to do "sudo port install
 pdflib" and the build completed without any problems. So it looks like the
 problem was with my system. The ticket should be closed.
