 Yes, that's the expected behaviour. I should mention that I'm on Tiger.
 I've tried it again. I've even installed the patch from
 [https://trac.macports.org/ticket/17950#comment:61 #comment:61] but with
 no success. I assume that you and jonas are on Leopard. Is there anyone
 with a running gnucash/quartz on Tiger?
