 Finally, I set up a G4 with Tiger and tested dbus/gconf/gnucash with
 +no_x11, -x11 +quartz. It works flawless without any errors. Even the
 patch from [#comment:61] is not necessary as the crash occurs only when
 using dbus-launch (which is now obsolete, see [#comment:18]).

 Maybe you've got an old fink installation around which adds a startup item
 for it's own dbus which sets the env var DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS. This
 points gnucash to the wrong session bus which can't start gconfd.... In
 this case `unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS` and try again (and remove
 fink's dbus startup item).
