then activating - to get a 'clean' _5 - works. In other words, I can not
re-create the crashes. So it seems the act of deactivating _5, activating
_4, then reversing it did something. Could something have been left over
after the upgrade process to _5 that left things in a bad state? And the
 activating/deactivating cleaned it up?

I am at a loss to explain this behavior.[[BR]]
First, if no variants were used, then there should be a file
 /Library/LaunchDaemons/org.freedesktop.dbus-system.plist.[[BR]]
Second, I am not sure why the sequence of deactivating and activating
 would have a palliative effect.[[BR]]
Although I am glad everything seems to be working.

I will leave this ticket open for a day or so.[[BR]]
If no more problems are reported, I will close it.
