 re: php 5 fastcgi executable:
Not sure. I just built php5 with fastcgi in case I needed it later but I
haven't gotten around to trying it out yet since I was having this issue.

Variant of apache: apache2 @2.2.15_1+preforkmpm (active)

Webpages are being served with out an issue, httpd just keeps crashing in
 the background.

Here's a sample of the error log:
[Thu Jun 10 05:53:25 2010] [notice] child pid 93195 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 05:58:54 2010] [notice] child pid 93167 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 06:00:33 2010] [notice] child pid 93243 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 06:00:42 2010] [notice] child pid 93137 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 06:01:20 2010] [notice] child pid 93194 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 06:01:31 2010] [notice] child pid 93165 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)
[Thu Jun 10 06:02:11 2010] [notice] child pid 93254 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)

How should I disable to extensions to php5? Should I just rebuild php5
without the +fastcgi variant and test?
