 This wasn't due to the cairo+x11_xcb requirement, and I believe it to just
 be a result of incompatibilities with things I had manually compiled in
 /usr/local outside of MacPorts.

 I think cmake was trying to use things like
 /usr/local/libpangoft2-1.0.dylib instead of those in /opt/local, which
 were somehow compiled 32-bit only and caused the linking errors later on.

 This should probably be closed, since I have determined that it is not
 occurring on fresh installs of OS X, but the incorrect linking might be
 worth noting.
