 There are three things at stake here. Tiger, gcc, PPC.
 I have successfully built Atlas 3.9.33 on the old MacPro (G5 - ppc64) at
 work with gcc45.
 In this case, that's a PPC-32bit architecture, right?
 Could you first retry with gcc45 instead of gcc44? I know it takes hours
 to compile on ppc, but who knows?
