 If build_arch in macports.conf is ppc then that's 32-bit. If it's ppc64
 then that's 64-bit. My PPC is a G4 which is 32-bit.

 > Could you first retry with gcc45 instead of gcc44? I know it takes hours
 to compile on ppc, but who knows?

 Am currently testing on Leopard on that machine. Will retry with other gcc
 versions later; all the gccs I can build are already built.

 I'll reattach my ppc tiger gcc44 log with a name that better identifies
 that.
