 I think that the postgresql91-llvm-gcc-4.2.diff and postgresql90-llvm-
 gcc-4.2.diff patches address Ryan's points and should be OK to be
 committed - can anyone check them and commit them if they're OK?

 I haven't tested earlier versions of PostgreSQL to see whether they also
 need similar patches. Please let me know if you'd like me to do so.
