 I was unaware the author insisted against installing the library version.
 I originally developed Perl bindings on Debian where the header and a
 static library are
 [http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/amd64/dialog/filelist installed]. If
 it's not too much trouble, I would like the library (shared object) and
 headers installed so I can work on the Perl bindings.
