 It doesn't have to do with fake or real.  It has to do with resolving.  If
 it doesn't resolve, then you can't use it.

 Why isn't hostname.fritz.box resolving?

 Is hostname.local resolving?

 What is your /etc/hosts?

 What is your /etc/resolv.conf?
