 Hi vjarao,

 It's probably best if you just wait until this port is updated in macports
 then you can just install it the normal way.

 You need to create a local port repository and copy the portfile there,
 instructions are here:

 http://guide.macports.org/chunked/development.local-repositories.html

 I'm going overseas soon, so I won't be able to help you in the next week
 or so, but if you really have trouble and really need octave send
 me a mail message and I'll try and get back to you when I get back from
 overseas.
