#35761: py-ipython: readline doesn't work properly

I am having a problem when using the macports readline in macports
ipython:
https://github.com/ipython/ipython/issues/2306
contains a simple description of how to reproduce it.
(Basically if you do a reverse search with CTRL-R and you'll get garbled
text at the ipython input line).
The ipython dev commented it might be a problem with macports readline,
but I'm not 100% sure because in macports python, which should use the
same readline, I don't see the problem.
I do see the issue also with e.g. python 3.2, where I don't have python
modules installed outside of macports, so I think this is not a problem
specific to my system.
Can some else confirm the problem?
Any idea what the origin of the problem is? Is this a readline or ipython
bug?
