 Ans:  Port installed before under OS X 10.5.

          Thought I completely uninstalled both wine & MacPorts using
 MacPorts users guide (uninstalling wine - suod port uninstall wine) also
 David Baumgold web developers (wine for Mac - Uninstalling Wine and
 MacPorts).

          Downloaded currant version of MacPorts for OX 10.6 following
 David Baumgold's notes.

           Tried your suggestion (port -f activate dbus and got the
 following:

                MacBookPro-2:~ jwb_admin$ port -f activate dbus
 Error: Insufficient privileges to write to MacPorts install prefix.
