 I am using Snow Leopard(10.6.8) and Xcode 3.2.6. And I confirmed that the
 same problem is reproduced in the system.

 I could solve it by downgrading fontconfig from 2.9.0 to 2.8.0.

 I experienced similar problems that mlterm and emacs are very slow to
 start up, then these problems are also solved by the downgrading of
 fontconfig.

 I guess something wrong in fontconfig 2.9.0.



 I confirmed that your problem is reproduced with fontconfig 2.9.0 and
 solved with fontconfig 2.8.0 in Snow Leopard.
