 I succeeded in sshing into my machine back home, upgrading to 10.7.4,
 installing a fresh copy of MacPorts and installing arb.

 My guess is you will succeed if you are able to clean out all the old
 Xcode stuff.

 But do post again if you are still dead in the water.
