 Because the non-default 'CC=/opt/local/bin/gcc-apple-4.2' and
 'CXX=/opt/local/bin/g++-apple-4.2' know that they can't use the default
 ld?

 In the evening I can make some tests, for example with compiling GNU Emacs
 24.2.50, to see what gets used… with both apple-gcc42 @5666.3_7 and apple-
 gcc42 @5666.3_8.
