 for me yes. The Macports compilers have names the configure script doesn't
 now about, so it cannot find them. If the user has 'port selected' a gcc
 compiler, so 'gfortran' is available (as opposed to gfortran-mp-X.Y) then
 yes, the configure script does find it still.
