 I seem to be unable to disable the Fortran compiler. It errors out in
 exactly the same way if I set it to an empty variable. I tried gfortran-
 mp-4.7 and it still throws many errors - I filed a ticket under
 https://savannah.cern.ch/bugs/index.php?99944. Let's see what the root
 developers respond.
