 @sebastian: Using the "octave38" name implies that it can be installed at
 the same time as other octave ports, e.g., "octave36". This is standard
 naming in MacPorts that is true at least 90% of the time, and those others
 are always encouraged to get their act together. As I said in
 [https://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-
 dev/2013-November/025163.html my email], I'm not going to go that route; I
 just don't have the time for it. I think having 1 usable active octave
 port is in everyone's best interest; and, eventually, the next generation
 of the stable release, too. My future octave-devel port (currently 3.7.7)
 seems to build and run just fine; I think I did not enable JIT just yet
 though. If you want to discuss any of this further, email me.
