Comment:

 Here's a patch to update the port to 1.8 and also ensure it's
 UsingTheCorrectCompiler and `-arch` flags and add a universal variant.
 This will also fix the current fetch failure in #40728 and I don't see the
 problem reported in #29354 either. If it looks good to you I can commit it
 for you.
