Comment:

 Yes, this is possible as the two versions can be installed in parallel.

 It makes sense to do this as part of the upgrade to GNOME 3.8/3.10
 currently in testing and hope to commit to the active tree this week.

 Currently all libgee dependents use the older (1.0) version.  After the
 upgrade almost all dependents will move
 to the newer (0.8) version but at least one (pdfpc) will not.  So having
 two ports makes sense for now or at least
 until there is no further need for it.
