Comment:

 As I noted above, by ''not'' patching in libedit, this problem goes away.
 I have a patch attached above that does that via new +readline variant.

 Is there some objection to either applying the patch, or even going one
 step forward and making +libedit the variant, and make using libreadline
 the stock? This is clearly continuing to bite people. Is there
 (potentially? haven't investigated) some licensing benefit to libedit vs.
 libreadline?
