Comment (by Peter_Dyballa@…):

 For some minutes I thought I am clever, creating a hardlink from
 `main.log` and saving it in root's home directory – but `port` is more
 cleaver: after some event it zaps `main.log` to 0 size and then starts to
 fill it again. So nothing is gained, except that it seems useful to
 correct `port`'s behaviour in this behaviour: close old `main.log`, maybe
 rename it, and start a new one. Information is more valuable than, say,
 1,000 disk blocks.

 Now it worked to work with (g)tail:

 {{{
 root 293 /\ gtail -f
 /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_nue.de.rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_sysutils_findutils/findutils/main.log
 >> main0.log
 gtail:
 /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_nue.de.rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_sysutils_findutils/findutils/main.log:
 Datei abgeschnitten
   C-c C-c
 }}}
