I don't see this problem on my Leopard PPC machine.
I see the log says "No space left on device". Is the disk full or is the
error message wrong? If the disk were really full I'd have expected the
build to fail too, not just this configure test.
You said something about an emacs compilation buffer. I don't know what
that is. Are you running this MacPorts installation inside emacs somehow?
If so, do you still see the problem if you run the MacPorts installation
directly in the shell, not using emacs?
It sounds like you're saying MacPorts is truncating the main.log file in
certain situations. Can you identify what those situations are? I also
observe log file truncation, during upgrades; the log only ends up
containing the log of activation, and the log of the build is lost. If
that's what you're talking about too, I agree we should fix it so the log
is not truncated. I don't know where in the code this is happening though.
I think this is bug #38586.
