 Given that versions 2.8 and 3.0 are not compatible and switching between
 one and the other leaves the ports in a broken state, wouldn't

 path:lib/libavcodec.dylib:ffmpeg
 }}}
 better be expressed with a temporary variant like `+ffmpeg_devel`
 replacing `ffmpeg` with `ffmpeg-devel` as a dependency? Using `ffmpeg-
 devel` requires an "experienced developer" (someone who knows what he is
 doing because all dependent port have to be [re]compiled from source when
 switching back and forth) and is equally problematic to simply upgrading
 `ffmpeg` to version 3.0.

 (Does the port list in this ticket also need an update?)
