 For reference: the locale settings I have in iTerm are these:

 LC_COLLATE="C"
 LC_CTYPE="UTF-8"
 LC_MESSAGES="C"
 LC_MONETARY="C"
 LC_NUMERIC="C"
 LC_TIME="C"
 LC_ALL=
 }}}

 The ones I have in Terminal are:
 {{{
 $ locale
 LANG=
 LC_COLLATE="C"
 LC_CTYPE="C"
 LC_MESSAGES="C"
 LC_MONETARY="C"
 LC_NUMERIC="C"
 LC_TIME="C"
 LC_ALL=

 Anyway, in Terminal the failures are the same as in iTerm.
