 that last fix seems to have allowed base to build through to completion on
 10.4 PPC -- thanks. I had a hiccup when upgrading the previous 2.3.5
 installation

 This could be my fault, perhaps -- I have an older installation that's
 been upgraded a time or two there. Perhaps I'll try a fresh installation
 and see if that fixes it.

 There were also a few warnings that went by during the base build that I
 might need to dig into.
