 I have several copies of 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 set up this way, and once
 set up they download seamlessly from all sites. You need to install
 macports from source in able to specify a custom libcurl installation
 you'll be using. It's easy -- takes 5 minutes -- and works well.

 I would suggest you go the extra step of installing a second copy of
 macports into /opt/bootstrap, and after installing curl in there,
 reference that installation on your main macports installation in
 /opt/local -- just seems safer.
