 We can see from the log that it is MacPorts that is telling the build to
 use libc++:

 {{{
 :debug:configure CXXFLAGS='-pipe -Os -stdlib=libc++ -arch x86_64'
 }}}

 The only reason why it should be doing that on ≤10.8 is if the user has
 used LibcxxOnOlderSystems.
