 The main difficulty is that we have a big patch and ed script for the
 autoconf system that implements support for the universal variant, which
 upstream was not interested in. We would need to investigate whether
 something similar needs to be done for the meson system.

 Whatever you come up with, let's play with glib2-devel first and get it
 working before touching glib2.

 pango-devel will also need to switch to meson, if you're interested in
 looking at that too. No patches there so it should be easier.

 I know we have a meson portgroup, it's just unfamiliar territory for me.
