 Personal note: why does the suggested fix work? I think it is "wrong" even
 if it works.

 In another bug [https://trac.macports.org/ticket/58834#ticket], I just
 suggested (and have proven) that os.major < 10 works on the same computer.

 I think it is the "!" part that is confusing and the test is written
 wrong. It should be used always with Darwin 9.x
 What is up with ppc? should it be excluded or included from  libcxx?
