Comment:

 The issue with VLC needing the +dvb variant is a long-standing limitation
 of MacPorts.  There are tickets elsewhere on this issue.

 I agree that we should be updating to the latest version released by SD.
 We are using code that was designed for Linux--Quartz is not supported, to
 my knowledge.    It may be some time, however, before I can make time to
 work on this.
