 We have not historically used the deactivate hack for this type of
 problem; instead, we use a self-conflict. The poppler port was using a
 self conflict until it was
 [changeset:18c09e26c90050596ad6c20e7c181de06c03e917/macports-ports
 removed].

 We should either reintroduce the self-conflict or better yet we should
 instead fix the problem as outlined in comment:15.
