Comment:

 As I've learned from your other ticket, you're deliberately subverting the
 MacPorts feature that would ensure dependencies are built universal, which
 of course will lead to errors like the one you encountered in this ticket
 when a universal dependency is required.

 You'd best ask your arch checking question on the mailing list where a
 larger audience can see it.
