 You should put macports.conf back to the default.

 Those universal_archs that are set in macports.conf had nothing whatsoever
 to do with you building clang-12 from source, which still has no
 explanation other than timing (ie you tried to install clang-12 before the
 buildbot was finished building it).

 If you don't believe me, set the universal_archs back to the default,
 uninstall clang-12 again, and then reinstall it, with or without the
 {{{-b}}}.

 (The {{{-b}}} just prevents MacPorts from building from source if the
 buildbot binary is not found).
