 Based on local testing within VMs, disabling AVX instructions fixes most
 of the build failures for MacOS 10.7 and 10.8.

 The buildbots currently have a sizeable backlog, so it's going to take a
 day or two before the changes work their way through the queue. But so
 far, things are looking much better.
