 It's not ironic. It's simply the case that cross-compiling is not as well
 tested and often has some unique challenges that do not present themselves
 when not cross-compiling. Some of the problems you are seeing would
 probably also happen if trying to cross-compile on macOS 11 or 12 for
 Intel on Apple Silicon or vice versa, and fixing those problems would be
 good.
