 I'm using X.14.6 and not X.15. The crash doesn't happens while quitting
 the program, but immediately during the start process.

 I downloaded the binary 5.3.2 from Github. It works and quits(!) without
 any problems (up to now). According to the change log the major difference
 is that 5.3.3 is code signed and they've taken the installer for macOS 11.

 Perhaps my problems with the MacPorts build are also due to signing, which
 doesn't work for X.14 and below???
