Comment (by gunterkoenigsmann):

 That means: perhaps I've just found one thing we did wrong: we did create
 the wxPersistenceManager in wxMaximaFrame and should have done so in
 wxMaxima, which is its child class.
 With a bit of luck that resolves that issue.
