 yes, I can see how a more incremental approach would make it easier to
 review even if the results are the same.

 So my understanding is this would involve:
   1) make a "hidden" port of v6
   2) converting existing packages to the v6 hidden port
   3) upgrade the main port to v7
   4) converting existing packages to the v7 port

 Correct?
