 Thank you so much. Port -d sync did it.
 I was running into many errors updating ports so I thought about it and
 found that I probably did not migrate my instance of MacPorts when I
 upgraded my OS from Mojave to Catalina some time ago.
 I followed the steps outlined in https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration
 and then ran into above problem.
 Maybe it is worth adding the sync command somewhere in the description?
